DO HAWOOD comes from the Somali language. The word ‘hawood’ means ‘enthusiasm’ or ‘passion’. We chose for these words because the enthusiasm of the founders leaded to the start of this project. One of the founders was in Somaliland for several months where she encountered the hospitality and beauty of the people in a country that is barely known and until today does not officially exists. DO HAWOOD is aiming for a sustainable way of development where enthusiasm is the starting point. Development Work sometimes has the tendency to be dramatic, paternalistic and based on top-down idea’s. Sometimes there is to much focus on the problems instead of focussing on the challenges and possibilities. To help should not only be done from a moral obligation but first and foremost should come from the heart: ‘Do it with passion!’ is the slogan of DO HAWOOD.
